# 30-Minute Service Business Marketing Checkup

You don't need a marketing plan to start. You need to know what's most likely costing you calls. This checkup takes about 30 minutes (estimate). Be honest — nobody sees the score but you.

## Before you start
Have these open:
1. Your Google Business Profile (search your business name on your phone, or open business.google.com).
2. Your website on your PHONE, not your computer.
3. Your last 10 inquiries (calls, texts, form emails, Facebook messages).

## How to score
- 0 = missing or wrong
- 1 = there but weak or outdated
- 2 = solid

## Section 1 — Google Business Profile (10 items)
1. Business name matches your sign/truck/invoices exactly (no extra keywords stuffed in).
2. Primary category matches most of your actual jobs.
3. Phone number rings a phone someone actually answers.
4. Hours are correct, including seasonal changes.
5. Service area lists the towns you really serve (not the whole state).
6. Services list includes your main 5–10 jobs in customer words.
7. At least 10 real photos of your work, trucks, team — added in the last 6 months.
8. Description says what you do, where, and for whom in plain words.
9. Every review from the last 3 months has a reply.
10. Website link works and goes to the right page.

## Section 2 — Website on your phone (6 items)
11. Within 5 seconds I can tell what you do and where.
12. Tap-to-call or text button is visible without scrolling.
13. Each main service has its own clear section or page.
14. There's real proof: your photos, real reviews (with permission), years only if true.
15. Contact form has 5 or fewer fields and works (send yourself a test).
16. Page loads in a few seconds on mobile data.

## Section 3 — Reviews (3 items)
17. You ask every finished customer, not just the happy ones.
18. You have a saved message you can send in under a minute.
19. You've had at least one new review in the last 60 days.

## Section 4 — Follow-up (4 items)
20. Every inquiry gets a reply the same business day.
21. You have one place where all leads go (a sheet, a notebook, an app).
22. Quotes get a follow-up if you don't hear back.
23. Missed calls get a call or text back.

## Section 5 — Knowing what works (2 items)
24. You ask new customers "How did you find us?" and write it down.
25. You can name your top 2 sources of jobs from the last 3 months.

## Your total
- 40–50: Strong basics. Focus on proof and consistency.
- 25–39: Some leaks. Fix your three lowest items first.
- 0–24: Start with Google profile accuracy and replying fast. Those two alone usually matter more than anything you'd pay for.

## Pick your "Fix first" three
Circle your 0s and 1s. Of those, pick the three that touch CALLS most directly (phone, hours, tap-to-call, reply speed, missed calls usually win). Write them here:
1. ______________________ — do by ______
2. ______________________ — do by ______
3. ______________________ — do by ______

## Example: lawn care, 2 trucks
Scored 27. Lowest: hours (0 — still showing winter hours in May), no tap-to-call on mobile (0), 4 photos from 2022 (1).
Fix first: update hours today, ask whoever built the site to add a call button, take 15 photos on next Tuesday's route.

## Example: residential cleaning, solo owner
Scored 31. Lowest: no reply to 6 reviews (0), leads spread across texts, Facebook and email (0), never asks how people found her (0).
Fix first: reply to all 6 reviews tonight (10 minutes), start one lead sheet, add "How did you hear about us?" to her booking text.

## Common mistakes
- Fixing the easy fun stuff (logo, colors) before the phone number and hours.
- Scoring 2 because "it's there." There isn't the same as working.
- Trying to fix all 25 this week. Three is plenty.

Do this checkup again in 90 days and compare.
