What Happens If I Stop Paying for Simply Built Website Care?
Quick answer
You can cancel any time, and your website stays yours — it's yours once it's finished and paid for, whether you keep care or not. What stops is the ongoing part: small edits, content updates, and basic maintenance are no longer included, so future changes would be quoted as separate work. Nothing gets taken away or held hostage.
What stays yours
The website itself. That's the promise on the rest of the site and it doesn't have fine print attached to a subscription. Care is a service for ongoing help, not a license fee for the thing you already paid for. Who owns the website covers this in more detail, including the parts — domains, third-party accounts — that were always separately yours.
What stops
- Small edits and content updates are no longer included.
- Basic maintenance checks are no longer being done for you.
- Future changes would be quoted as separate work, at the time you ask.
That's the whole list. There's no cancellation penalty and no waiting period invented to keep you paying an extra month.
What you'd want to pick up yourself
The basic checks are short, and they matter more than they sound:
- Submit your own contact form every month or two and confirm it arrives.
- Keep your domain registration paid and in your own name.
- Look at the site on a phone occasionally.
- Update any fact — price, hours, service — the week it changes.
Maintenance when nothing changes walks through why those few things are the ones worth keeping an eye on.
Coming back later
You can. People stop during a slow season and restart when things pick up, or drop care and come back with a batch of changes a year later. Either is fine — ask and we'll sort out whether it's care or a one-off piece of work.
Why it's structured this way
Because "built first, paid later" doesn't mean much if the finished thing is rented. You should be able to stop paying me and still have a working website. If you ever want to take it somewhere else entirely, that's covered too.
Still not sure what you need?
Give me what you have. I'll help with the rest. No pressure, and nothing is due until your site is built and you like it.
