Do I Need to Pay Monthly for a Small Business Website?

Quick answer

Some recurring cost is normal, but it's usually small and it isn't the same as paying monthly for the website itself. A domain renews yearly, hosting or a platform may have a fee, and any third-party apps you add have their own pricing. At Simply Built Co., the build is a one-time price and Website Care is optional at $50/month — you're not locked into it.

The costs that can recur

  • Your domain name. Registrars charge a renewal, usually yearly. You pay the registrar, and you should keep that account in your own name.
  • Hosting or platform. Wherever the site lives may charge a fee. Amounts vary widely by provider, so I won't invent a number for yours.
  • Optional care or maintenance. Someone keeping the site current for you, making changes, and checking that forms still work.
  • Third-party apps. Booking tools, payment processors, email sending, chat widgets — each one has its own pricing and terms.

What's not a real recurring cost

Paying rent forever just to keep your own website online, with no ability to leave, is not a technical requirement — it's a business model. If someone quotes you a monthly figure, ask plainly what happens to your site if you stop paying, and who owns what. See who owns my website.

How Simply Built handles it

The build is a one-time price: Simple Start $399, Business Website $749, or Custom Build $1,250+. Website Care is $50/month and it's optional. Some owners take it because they'd rather text me a change than log in; others skip it and only reach out when something needs updating. Both are fine. Details are on the packages section of the homepage and the payment pages.

Is care worth it for you?

  • Worth it if: your prices, services, staff, or photos change often, or you don't want to touch the site yourself.
  • Probably skip it if: your information is stable and you're comfortable asking for a change now and then.

Either way, someone should be checking the basics periodically — see how often to update your website. And for the full cost picture, read how much a small business website costs.
