What Do I Need to Give Someone to Build My Business Website?
Quick answer
At a minimum: your business name, what you do, where you work, and how customers should reach you. Everything else — logo, photos, reviews, service details, social pages — helps, but it can come later or be built along the way. You do not need a finished pile of content before anyone can start.
Most owners delay a website because they think they need a folder of finished material first. You don't. The pieces below are what a builder genuinely uses, roughly in order of how much they matter.
The four things that actually start a build
- Your business name, exactly how you want it spelled and shown.
- What you do, in your own words — even a rough paragraph or voice note.
- Where you work: towns, counties, a radius, or a shop address.
- How you want customers to reach you: phone, form, email, or all three.
With those four, someone can build a real first version. See can I start with just my business name and what I do.
Helpful, but not required
- A logo, if you have one — otherwise your name set in clean type works fine.
- Photos of your work, your crew, your shop, your truck, your products.
- Your Facebook, Instagram, or Google Business Profile links.
- A list of services, and any prices or starting prices you want shown.
- Existing reviews you have permission to use.
- Notes on sites you like, and what you liked about them.
None of that is a gate. A missing logo is covered in do I need a logo first, and photos are covered in do I need professional photos.
What only you can supply
Someone else can organize and tighten your wording, but the facts have to come from you and be checked by you: prices, services, hours, service area, license or insurance claims, and anything you promise a customer. A builder can't verify those for you. See who writes the content.
If you already have something online
An old website, an active Facebook page, a printed flyer, or a truck wrap all count as source material. They save time and keep your wording consistent. See can you build a website from my Facebook page.
A realistic way to start
Send the four basics, plus whatever photos are already on your phone. Add the rest as it surfaces. Waiting until everything is perfect is the most common reason a small business still has no website three years later — and it's why Simply Built builds the first version before you pay.
