Can I Edit My Business Website Myself?

Quick answer

It depends completely on how your site is built. Some builds hand you a dashboard where you can change text and photos; others are edited by whoever built them. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you're getting before you pay, because it shapes how every future change happens.

Why the answer isn't universal

"Editable" covers a wide range. Some sites let you edit everything, including layout. Some let you change words and swap images but not structure. Some are code-based and edited by a developer. A few are technically editable but so fragile that owners break them and stop trying.

Ask these before you buy

  • Which specific things can I change — text, photos, prices, whole pages?
  • Do I get my own login, and is the account in my name?
  • Can I break the site, and what happens if I do?
  • If I don't want to edit it, what does having you do it cost?
  • Is there a backup or a way to undo a bad change?

More of these in questions to ask before hiring a web designer and do I need backups.

Be honest about whether you will

Plenty of owners insist on self-editing and never log in once. Others genuinely want to post new photos every week. If you're the second kind, say so up front — it changes what should be built. If you're the first, a small monthly arrangement is usually cheaper than your own time.

When you can't edit directly

Sending changes to someone is a normal, workable arrangement — as long as it's clear who does them, how fast, and what they cost. What you want to avoid is a vendor who's unreachable when your phone number changes.

How this works with Simply Built

I don't want to promise you a self-editing dashboard that your package may not include, so ask me about your specific build before you buy and I'll tell you straight. The practical route most owners use is the optional $50/month Website Care for small edits and content updates, or one-off changes quoted as needed. Either way the site is yours once it's finished and paid for — see who owns my website.
